Creating Your School Improvement Plan in ASSIST

Click on the “Goals & Plans” Tab

Click “Create a Goal”

1. Type in the broad goal

2. Identify the type of goal and 3. click “continue”.

Writing Measurable Objectives• The Objective defines: • (a) Who is the target population• (b) What do they need to achieve• (c) How will success be measured• (d) When will they achieve it.

Objective Guidance• You should have four objectives for each goal:• How you will improve the percentage of students meeting the

DoDEA goal for students scoring at or above the 50th percentile.• How you will improve the percentage of students meeting the

DoDEA goal for students scoring at or below the 25th percentile.• How you will improve the average or met standard for each of the

remaining assessments for the goal.

Read the information and click “Next”

DoDEA Performance Measure 1.1

• 75% of students in grades 3-11 will score in the top two quarters on the system-wide, standardized assessment in math, science, reading, language arts and social studies.

Select the correct statement

The only schools who should check “No” are those that ONLY have students in grades taking the TN (Grades 3-9). If you have students in Grades SS-2nd or 10-12, you should select “Yes” to specify student groups.

Select the category(ies) to specific and then the specific groups. For this objective, only select grades taking the TN Assessment.

Select “A percentage”.

If 75% of your students are NOT scoring at or above the 50th percentile, In the second box indicate 75%.

If 75% or more of your students are performing at this level, continue to increase the percentage.

1. Even if your goal is across the curriculum, you must select one subject area for measuring growth toward the goal.

2. Select “demonstrate a proficiency”.

3. Type “by scoring at the 50th percentile or higher”

Identify the assessment and for this objective the Terra Nova subtest.

Select a date to meet this objective and click “Preview”.

A preview of the wording of the objective will appear for you to preview. If you need to make changes you can click on “back” button. If it is worded correctly then click on “Accept and Continue”.

Writing Strategies

Click “Add strategy”

Complete the three text boxes and select “Next”.

Review and click “Accept”.

Create 3-5 activities for the strategy. Suggested activities include:• Professional Development• Expectations for the implementation of the

strategy in instruction• Plans and Processes for administration of

the assessments for the strategy• Plan for communicating with stakeholdersOnce an activity has been entered click “next”.

Select “Add Activity” under the “Action” tab on the “Strategy” line. Continue this process until all activities are entered.

Select “Add Objective” under the “Action” tab on the “Goal” line. Continue this process until all four objectives are completed.

Continue this process• To write the objective for 5% or less of students scoring in the

bottom quartile, follow the previous directions with the change listed on the next slides.

• There are two ways of wording the objective:• 5% or less will score BELOW the 25th percentile • 95% or more will score at or ABOVE the 25th percentile

OPTION A:

Select “A percentage”.

If 5% or fewer of your students are NOT scoring below the 25th percentile, In the second box indicate 5%.

If 5% or fewer of your students are performing at this level, continue to decrease the percentage.

OPTION B:

Select “A percentage”.

If 95% or more of your students are NOT scoring at or ABOVE the 25th percentile, In the second box indicate 95%.

If 95% or more of your students are scoring at or ABOVE the 25th percentile, In the second box indicate a number greater than 95%.

If using the same strategy for the objective, click “Choose an existing strategy”, then select the strategy name. Click “Add Selected Strategy”. The system will link the strategy and all related activities to the new objective.

Continue the process until:• Four objectives for each goal• At least on strategy for each objective• At least three – five activities for each strategy.

Repeat the process for the second goal:• Four objectives for each goal• At least on strategy for each objective• At least three – five activities for each strategy.
