Creating Heading Styles in Microsoft Word

This PowerPoint is part of our 60 Second Tips series

To break your document into chapters or sections you can use Heading Styles.

Microsoft provides some pre-made Heading Styles

However, if you want to create your own heading styles select a heading in your document and choose the font style, size and colour…

…and then click the down arrow to the right hand end of the Styles group on the Home ribbon.

Select Create a Style

If you still have your style selected, Word automatically picks up on your style. Give it a Name and click OK.

Create sub-headings in exactly the same way.

Your new heading styles appear in the Styles Group on the Home ribbon.

Heading styles can be used to create a hyperlinked Table of Contents in your document. We have another 60 Second Tip on How to Create a Table of Contents.

This PowerPoint is part of our 60 second series of Microsoft tips to help you make the most of Microsoft Office. To see our videos
