CREATING “COLLEGE-LEVEL” ART

How to make sure your art doesn’t scream “I’m still in

High School”

First lets talk about some things to Avoid…

• “Fan Art” • Stuff that looks like “it’s been done before.” Needs to feel original.

• Teenage themes. • Cutesy stuff.

• “Copying” (if you do no better than a copy machine what is the point)

• Obvious messages or meanings.

#1: PUT IN THE TIME!!! Each project should take a minimum of 6-8 hours to

complete.

• Don’t draw “things” create art!

• Avoid overused subjects.

Things you should do

• Think, THINK, THINK!

• Find a new angle.

• Do something different.

• Show your skills. • Create art works NOT sketches (think about background).

• Use a unique style • Go beyond a “drawing class assignment”
