Journal Prompts for Beginning Writers Writing is a skill that requires daily practice. These simple beginning journal prompts are designed to help beginning writers build confidence, practice articulating thoughts, work on fine motor skills and proper letter formation. Each monthly packet will include a journal cover for the month, a sight word list and monthly journal prompts in two versions.

The monthly packets will have two different versions of each journal prompt. Version 1 of the journals helps beginning writings by providing a simple prompt to start their writing. Version 2 uses the same content without the prompt. This is a great opportunity for more advanced writers to be more creative and independent in their writing.

Journal Prompts for Beginning Writers The “I Can” statements on each journal page provides text and visual support to help remind students to: *Use capital letters *Use finger spacing *Sound out words *Use periods *Draw a picture

Students can illustrate their work in the box. This space can also be used for labeling their pictures.

Each journal prompt has an illustrated word bank to help spell words they might use for their writing. However, it is important to remind students that they are not limited to the words/ideas in the word bank.

Additional paper is provided for students who want to write more.

Beginning prompts show proper letter formation, spacing and sizing.

A basic sight word list can be used to help spell some of the most common sight words.
