Start in 1940, work backwards in time

Use a map and browse the census images to find the correct street

After you find it the first time, search same enumeration district, neighbor’s names

Follow it back in the census until it disappears

Fill in the gaps with city directories if available

Search Local Newspaper Archives for address and residents

Look for Obituaries

Type in street names

John Thomas Ellington Jr., 80, a native of Stafford County, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mr. Ellington had been the owner of several local contracting businesses since 1951.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 55 and was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Stiles Ellington; a daughter, Sandie "Sissie" Roberts of Maryland; three sons, David Ellington of Fredericksburg, Robert Ellington of Alexandria and the Rev. John Ellington of Hampton; three sisters, Clara Lee of Fredericksburg, Virginia Atkins of Bassett and Cindy Sweger of Illinois; a brother, Bernard J. Ellington of Fredericksburg; and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Found & Sons Funeral Chapels, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Robert Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Laura Green to help defray her medical expenses, c/o Fairview Baptist Church, 900 Charlotte St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.
