• Country initiative in Senegal to use mobile

technology for DIABETES prevention and

control launched in November 2014.

1. Prevention using SMS based campaign;

2. mTraining program for health professionals and

community health workers;

3. Patient monitoring component using mobile

phones.

using mobile technology to

improve NCDs prevention

and treatment.

UNICEF’s Global Innovation Centre & Innovation Fund

• UNICEF launched a new Global Innovation Centre and Innovation Fund to bring to scale innovative, creative and cost-reducing approaches to better the lives of the poorest children.

• The Innovation Fund has raised over $9 million. There are approximately 300 innovative projects already in the works. Examples:

• EduTrac

• mTrac

• U-Report (built on RapidPro)

• Internet of Good Things (IoGT)

Wearables for Good Challenge

CauseTech

• CauseTech is a community of the world’s top innovators,

technologists, researchers, and entrepreneurs to leverage

and scale solutions to address global needs.

• OpenIDEO is an open innovation platform bringing people

together to collaboratively solve challenges for social

good through a 6-step process 3-5 month collaborative

process.

• Crowdsourcing global tools and content to support

organizations building mHealth programs for Frontline

Health Workers.

• ORB: online repository of digital health content (e.g. SMS, IVR,

video, audio, images, animation) that can be downloaded and

integrated into technology applications.

• HealthEnabled facilitates development of national

integrated digital health systems in low- and middle-

income countries by connecting experts with

stakeholders.

GSMA Pan-African mHealth Initiative (PAMI)

• GSMA mHealth programme launched the Pan-African

mHealth Initiative (PAMI) in support of UN’s Every Woman

Every Child Initiative, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) and the

Global Nutrition for Growth Compact.

• Focus: to support the scale-up of mHealth in nutrition and

maternal and child health, in support of the Millennium

Development Goals 4, 5 and 6.
