Construction of Film Poster

By Lauren Stewart 13-0

Typography The type of font I included on the poster was a doodle-type cartoon font to establish the type of audience we are targeting which is a teen audience. The genre of the film is a coming-of-age comedy drama and the playful yet creative font establishes the light-hearted feel of ‘Ambivalent’.

Colour Scheme For the title of ‘Ambivalent’ to suit the light-hearted and comedic atmosphere of the film and the ‘coming of age’ genre I decided to use a different range of pastel colours as Pastels symbolise relaxation, femininity, delicacy and springtime. The inspiration I got for the colour scheme was from the poster of ‘Napolean Dynamite’ with the use of the ‘light blue’ background which symbolises peace, wisdom and loyalty.

BackgroundFor the background I downloaded an doodle-type background and edited it with changing the colour to a light- blue gradient and decreased the opacity of the doodles to make it look hand-drawn to emphasise the creativity and day-dreaming aspect of Serenity’s character. And I was inspired by the background of the ‘Napolean Dynamite’ with his doodles and all the images included in the background have significance in the movie and portrays Napolean as a day-dreamer.

PictureThe positioning of Serenity is centered in the forefront to display her significance. Her facial expressions display anxiety, insecurity and indecision which is implied by the title ‘Ambivalent’ Which means to hold mixed emotions towards someone and something and the themes of maturity and confidence is explored through the trailer and we wanted to express the same feelings Serenity expresses on the poster.
