Outline

– Configuration Identification

– Change control

– Configuration accounting

– Configuration audit

Management plans: what, who, when

– Programme Management Plan, ESS-1122

– Quality Management Plan, ESS-18636

– Construction Phase Management Plan, ESS-14361

– Systems Engineering Management Plan, ESS-2908

– Configuration Management Plan, ESS-3688

– Interface Management Plan, ESS-2917

– Risk Management Plan, ESS-4460

Configuration management objectives

– All work products are identified individually and uniquely.– The development status of all work products is known at any

given time.– The identity of the approved/master version of each work

product will be clear.– The composition of any baseline of configuration items is known

and stored.– Changes to configuration items are managed and controlled.– Accurate status and current configuration information is

available.

Configuration Accounting

– The System Status Report is the main tool for the Engineering function to document and assess the status of the development of the systems in a single document (to be used).

– The Project Report issued by the project managers and will report the status of the risk, cost and schedule data (in use).

Configuration Audit

– Functional and physical audits are integrated in the SEMP.

– Quality Audits might be performed at any time upon request from any process owner or system owner to assess the application of the configuration management process and to ensure that corrective action are conducted.

– Each Project is responsible for ensuring the quality of the configuration management process.

– Configuration Audits will focus on a configuration item or set of configuration items.

Summary

– The framework is defined using ISO10007 and ISO15288.– The naming scheme is being improved.– Our CM approach needs some complements and adjustments

based on feedback (e.g. audits).– Configuration Management is part of the Product Lifecycle

Management which is under deployment at ESS. – The pace of this deployment is to be defined in between:

– Long term deployment contributing to the definition of an ESS engineering culture,

– A major component of the construction phase for limiting cost and schedule overrun.
