MISSION

• To co-create model classrooms and eventually model schools involving community participation.

• To create a pool of locally trained resources, who can contribute towards the education system and overall development of their community, by providing them dedicated mentoring.

State of Indian Rural School Education

Latest ASER (Annual Status of Education Report ( Rural) 2012) compiled and facilitated by Pratham says:

• 53.2% children in Std. V cannot read a Std. II level text.• 61.3% children enrolled in Std. III cannot read a Std. I level

text • 46.5% children enrolled in Std. V could not solve simple

two-digit subtraction problems..• Three fourth children in Std. V could not do simple

division.

Reasons

• Social inequalities of caste, class and gender and this context governs the access, retention and achievement levels of school going children.

• Lack of skilled workforce in the rural education sector.

• Access to exposure, proper training and development facilities.

• Growth prospects in comparison to the urban counterparts.

The MODEL• The fellowship will have two types of fellows

bringing in two level of input

External Input

•To bring in the exposure and expertise from outer world into the rural areas.

Internal Input

•To bring in an understanding of the local practices, culture, methodologies, strong community representation.

MENTOR FELLOWS• 1 year• Young, motivated

professionals/college graduates from different parts of the country

• placed as mentors and administrative assistant to the school in-charge

COMMUNITY FELLOWS• 1 year• Young motivated individuals from

the local communities • placed full time teacher• mentored by the Mentor Fellows• Also to complete their graduation

if not done during the fellowship

Impact

Short Term Impact ( 1-2 Year)

• Improved academic performance.• Increased overall school student pass %• Efficient and effective school administration adhering to the government norms ( RTE )

Long Term Impact (>5 years)

• Pool of human resources available in the community who will work towards the betterment of their communities.• Community playing a much bigger role in effective school operations.• Reduced dependency on external human resources and skills.

• About 35 GPs out of 114 GPs are highly inaccessible in separated Dantewada.

• About 1/3rd house holds are un-electrified.

Education had been the biggest causality

• 86 Schools and ashram buildings were blasted.• 20-30% schools have become defunct because of

inaccessibility and other reasons

21816 out of school children in January 2011

(Mere 42% Literacy as per Census 2011)

Dantewada & Bijapur are the only two districts in entire India where RBCs are converted into residential schools

• Construction of 27 residential schools already completed.• 26 Residential schools are under

construction
