Complete 60 minutes of Maths-Whizz during the week, aiming to make at least 4 progressions.

1. 7545 divided by 15 2. How many vertices does a triangular based

pyramid have? 3. 55% X 380 4. 3 1/2 x 2/3 5. Four train tickets cost £84.56 How much

does one train ticket cost? 6. Find the common factors of 25 and 36 7. A car uses 125ml of petrol every minute. How

long will it take to use 5.5 litres?

1. 7545 divided by 15 = 5032. How many vertices does a triangular based

pyramid have? = 43. 55% X 380 = 2094. 3 1/2 x 2/3 = 2 1/3 or 7/3 5. Four train tickets cost £84.56 How much

does one train ticket cost? = £21.14 6. Find the common factors of 25 and 36 = 17. A car uses 125ml of petrol every minute. How

long will it take to use 5.5 litres? = 44 minutes

Lesson Objective:To be able to calculate and interpret the mean as an average.

Success Criteria:I can calculate mean.

Can you how many slices of pizza each child ate for lunch? Try using counters or equipment to help you.

Can you organise the data using the counters, such as a pictogram? Order the pizzas eaten from least to most. What is the number of pieces that most children ate?How many slices were eaten by the child in the middle (Elliott)? Can the slices be shared evenly between the five children? Can you think of a way to calculate this?

These are the methods for finding the mode, median and mean – three different ways to calculate average. Most people associate average with the mean. In everyday language, when we say 'the average is 3', we mean 'the mean is 3'.

1. 7500 - 34152. How many edges does a cuboid have?3. 53% X 320 4. 1 ¼ - 3/55. One coin weighs 15g. How many coins weigh

1.2kg?6. Find the lowest common multiple of 6 and 97. What number lies halfway between 1.65 and

1.7?

1. 7500 – 3415 = 4,0852. How many edges does a cuboid have? = 123. 53% X 320 = 169.6 4. 1 ¼ - 3/5 = 13/205. One coin weighs 15g. How many coins weigh

1.2kg? = 80 coins 6. Find the lowest common multiple of 6 and 9 =

187. What number lies halfway between 1.65 and

1.7? = 1.675

Lesson Objective:To be able to calculate and interpret the mean as an average.

Success Criteria:I can calculate mean.

Can you use the methods we learnt in the last lesson to find the average number of goals for each group? Can you use the pictures to estimate the average for each group? Which average should we calculate – the mean, mode or median?

Try using counters to represent the goals. Arrange the goals for each group, then rearrange some to find the mean. Think about what to do if the goals cannot be arranged evenly across all the four countries. Mean is just an indication, not the actual number.

1. What is the product of 567 and 29?2. How many edges does a triangular prism have?3. 26% X 780 4. ¾ x 4/55. Find the common factors of 28 and 366. How many 15cm pieces of string can be cut from

5m?7. If one pound = 1.46 euros then change 17.52 euros

to pounds.8. What number lies halfway between 3.65 and 3.85?

1. What is the product of 567 and 29? = 16,4432. How many edges does a triangular prism have? = 93. 26% X 780 = 202.84. ¾ x 4/5 = 3/55. Find the common factors of 28 and 36 = 1, 2, 46. How many 15cm pieces of string can be cut from

5m? = 33 with 5 cm leftover 7. If one pound = 1.46 euros then change 17.52 euros

to pounds. = £128. What number lies halfway between 3.65 and 3.85?

= 3.75

Lesson Objective:To be able to calculate and interpret the mean as an average.

Success Criteria:I can calculate mean.

Is it possible to find the age of each person with the mean age? How can we do this? Can we start by finding the total of their ages?

Is there more than one possible answer? Can you suggest different solutions? Can you find the youngest possible age?Can you find the oldest possible age?

Is the mean age a good indicator of how old the five people are for each possibility.
