3.4.2 Involvement with New Advancements in Up-To-Date Technology
The REDE engineering team is constantly evaluating existing engineering applications and
our in-house design standards to ensure that solutions engineered is up to date with
advancements in technology.
As part of REDE’s involvement in the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative
(ASIDI) water supply programmes, REDE has utilized the opportunity to include Solar-, as
well as Micro Wind Turbine (MWT) driven pumping solutions to our set of design
specifications. Through ASIDI, REDE has been instrumental in providing Solar- and Micro
Wind Turbine water supply solutions to educational facilities in the Eastern Cape and
Limpopo provinces. The future of sustainable supply of electricity, particularly in rural areas
is faced with many challenges and the advancement in alternative, cost effective energy
solutions such as Solar- and Wind energy enables the implementation of water supply
infrastructure in remote areas where previously not possible.
User education to stakeholders where these technologies are implemented, is of vital
importance. Our years of experience in the implementation of ground water harvesting
infrastructure in rural applications has provided the REDE team with most valuable
expertise when it comes to the selection of appropriate engineering solutions for such
infrastructure. User education material related to the advantages, disadvantages as well as
cost implications related to Capital- and Operational Expenditure of related infrastructure is
available as part of our Operational Process Assets.
Part of the engineering solutions provided by REDE to water supply projects, involve the
treatment of water resources to provide consumption standards to SANS 241. Water
treatment technologies are constantly evaluated, to ensure most appropriate applications to
client specifications and requirements. Water treatment options include disinfection through
chlorination as well as the removal of metals and other non-dissolved solids through
filtration or reverse osmosis technologies.
4 OUR COMMITMENT TO BROAD-BASED BLACK ECONOMIC
EMPOWERMENT
The past socio economic imbalances that existed in South Africa are being addressed
through government’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) initiative.
In this regard, REDE has accepted our responsibility to contribute to the transformation
objectives that will enable meaningful participation in the South African economy by black
people.
As part of our transformation commitment, REDE is actively involved in the development
and support of much needed black skills in the fields of engineering and project
management. This is achieved through the continuous development of our internal skilled
personnel, as well as through mentorship and business support provided to assist and
accelerate the growth of black entities. Through our enterprise development support
rendered to Flux Development Scientists, Goadex and BM Manufacturing and Suppliers
(Pty) Ltd, strategic partnerships have been established that have resulted in mutually
beneficial projects and the transfer of skills through project collaboration and mentorship.
Document Ref. no.: RED01_CP01_2015
With reference to the Qualifying Thresholds applicable to the B-BBEE Scorecard
whereupon the basis of measurement is determined, REDE qualifies as a Qualifying Small
Enterprise (QSE) and is required to comply with the Built Environment Professional sector
code. Our current B-BBEE Scorecard status as per the Broad-Based Black Economic
Empowerment Act, 2013 (Act no. 46 of 2013), is Level 1. With reference to the Amended
Codes of Good Practice, applicable to the B-BBEE Act that came into effect on the 1st of
May 2015, REDE is actively aligning our transformation priorities with requirements.
In order to comply with the Amended B-BBEE Codes Scorecard requirements of racial
ownership composition targets, REDE has committed to transfer the majority voting rights
and economic interest to qualifying black people by early 2016. This will be achieved
through transferring ownership to a combination of strategic individual shareholders and
Broad-Based Ownership Schemes.
