function of the word is (what is it describing?)• Noun: person, place, thing, or

idea• Can be something you can physically see or

interact with (Bob, friend, rug, tree, water, wire, Las Vegas, upstairs)

• Can be a quality that something has (height, brightness, humidity)

• Can be a concept (love, concentration, sadness)

• Adjective: describes a noun• The tree is large.• He is the main character of the story.• Most fire trucks are red. This makes sense since

red is a bright color.

• Verb: an action or state of being• We jumped into the water.• The cat sat on the sofa.• He enjoys basketball.• Mr. Belmont is sad.
