Bandung Center for New Media Arts was founded in December 2001 as a respond of the urge of dialogue and cooperation among multi-disciplinary fields. By putting interest in the cross-section of science, technology and art, the organization tries to involve with person/institution to cooperate in shaping new ideas. Bandung Center for New Media Arts started its activity mainly in contemporary arts and architecture.

Common Room is a platform for various activities that are organized by Bandung Center for New Media Arts. Since 2003, Bandung Center for New Media Arts has utilized Common Room as an anchor that facilitates diverse individuals, communities and organizations. Later on, it becoming a place were people could add, edit and execute activities based on their own purpose and interest, which mainly focus in developing public knowledge and creativity in Bandung - Indonesia.

Case Study: Creative Culture in Bandung 2005 - 2006

New and Emerging Creative Culture in Bandung Creative movement in Bandung reached its momentum on Indonesia economic crisis in 1996 - 1998. Subsequently, the city became barometer on independen music, fashion, and alternative media that initiate youth counter culture movement that in opposition with mainstream culture and industry. Among many aspect that has become the source of influence in this new and emerging creative practice and culture is the use pirated software, which widely available in local market or easily downloaded from the internet; including new knowledge and information that is provided by digital media and internet technology.

Urban Cartography Project was inspired by the work of Indra Ameng and Keke Tumbuan (Secret Places, 2005), that was exhibited at 347/EAT exhibition space in 2005. The ongoing Urban Cartography Project involves its audience to trace out locations with particular information for the public in Bandung in order to represents the dynamic psychogeography of Bandung from the view of its inhabitants. In 2005, this project started to recognize the emerging creative practice that is being developed in Bandung for the past 10 years, which is compiled in Urban Cartography Project V.01: Bandung Creative Communities 1995 - 2005.
