Combined Cycle Power Plant Empalme IIAccording to the CFE’s growth forecast, the demand for electricity in Northwestern region of Mexico will grow on average, 3.6% annually.

In order to meet the demand and maintain regional reserve margins at the appropriate levels, it is intended to build the Empalme II combined cycle. The project is located in Empalme, Sonora.

This project will consist of a power plant with 791 MW of capacity under summer design conditions, under Financed Public Works (OPF) plan.

This central plant could have the following configurations: (i) module comprising three gas turbines, three heat exchangers and one steam turbine; or (ii) module consisting of two gas turbines with two heat exchangers and one steam turbine.

The project includes the engineering and the supply of all equipment and materials, spare parts and special tools, all testing activities and the commission, as well as an electrical substation.

The combined cycle will operate with natural gas, which will be provided by the CFE.

The estimated project implementation period is 30 months.
