DATE 03 – 08 DECEMBER 2019 STADIUM TSAKANE STADIUM HOSTS TSAKANE, EKURHULENI
FOR SASOL LEAGUE
President of the South African Football Association
MESSAGE FROM DR DANNY JORDAAN
This year’s Sasol League National Championship being held here in Gauteng Province, will further the vital component of SAFA’s Vision 2022 agenda of increasing the number of women participating in football across the country. The numbers of women who are involved in football as players, coaches and referees have grown in leaps and bounds in the past few years and following the launch of the SAFA Women’s National League (SWNL) this past August, the numbers will continue to skyrocket. And the catalyst for this growth has been mainly due to Sasol-sponsored initiatives like the Sasol League. This year’s 11th edition of the National Championship is guaranteed to be another humdinger following the launch of the SWNL as it will now serve as a promotional tournament, with the top two teams being promoted into the SWNL. We can look forward to a new champion being crowned this year. The defending champions TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) will not be defending their title as teams playing in the SWNL no longer take part in the Sasol League. The Sasol League National Championship is traditionally a year-closing tournament and as a result, is always the centre of attraction for players, coaches and football lovers in general. Apart from playing for promotion and the prospect of huge cash incentives, another impetus for the players are daily cash prizes plus an opportunity to impress national coaches who will, daily, attend the tournament. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our valued sponsors Sasol for helping us achieve this noble agenda which forms the bigger part of SAFA’s Vision 2022.
FOR BANYANA BANYANA
Mama Winnie has had a long association with South African Football as she saw our sport as a great unifier and a key player in building social cohesion during the struggle against apartheid and part of the nation-building effort after 1994. She is unquestionably one of the most outstanding heroes of this country and her sacrifices and dedication to an equal society are unmatched and therefore, as SAFA we saw it fit to remember her devotion to what she did for a new South Africa with this annual football challenge.” SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan
IN THE WINNIE MANDELA INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE An international friendly played by Banyana Banyana annually and organised by the South African Football Association and the Mandela Legacy Foundation to honour the late Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela-Mandela.
COME SHOW YOUR L VE
“Young girls
who want to come into sports need to
know who their lives can be modeled around.
Banyana Banyana’s journey and successes are a testament to the excellence that we already have within us. This is in line with Mama’s teachings that
we are enough and we are all we need.”
Mandela Legacy Foundation Director Zondwa Mandela

MESSAGE FROM MR ELTON FORTUIN
Welcome to the 2019 Sasol League National Championship, taking place in the Gauteng province for the first time ever. This year marks the 11th edition of the Sasol League National Championship, and as a brand that supports women’s football, we are excited to see what the new decade holds. In addition to Banyana Banyana, the Sasol League has become a breeding ground for the SAFA Women’s National League (SWNL), the country’s first ever such league. It is an honour to see twelve former Sasol League teams in the SWNL making history and showcasing their talent on a professional level. This year, the top two teams at this tournament will also be promoted to the SWNL, once again proving the Sasol League’s vital role in the country’s growth and development of women’s football. The Sasol League continues to provide a platform for international and local scouts seeking talented female players and this year we have seen several players receive scholarships abroad. Another testament to how the Sasol League has opened doors for players in South Africa and overseas.
Through our #Limitless initiative we have seen women’s football in South Africa grow from strength to strength. The initiative has played an important role in providing exposure for the sport and shining a light on some of our #Limitless Heroes such as our Sasol League coaches and players who continue to shine on and off the field. Our aim is to continue driving the #Limitless narrative, making sure that stories of women and men contributing to women’s football are told; stories of inspiration showcasing the true leaders of the game. As the brand that has been empowering women’s football for so many years, we are immensely proud of the growth and achievements we have seen in the sport. We hope to continue empowering female footballers and providing them with a platform where they can display their talents and nurture their skills. We’d like to thank our partners SAFA, who have been with us since the beginning of our journey. This has been a very impactful partnership, producing great results. To members of the media, thank you for your continued support; this game would definitely not receive the exposure it does if it wasn’t for you and your efforts. We would also like to congratulate the teams that are participating at this 2019 Sasol League National Championship for the first time. This is your opportunity to prove yourselves to all of South Africa. Lastly, we wish the best of luck to all the teams that have made it to this tournament. Do your best and most importantly, enjoy yourselves.
Chairperson: SAFA Committee Cluster for
Competitions, Football, Youth, Women, Futsal, Beach Soccer
MESSAGE FROM MR GLADWYN WHITE
The 11th edition of the annual SASOL League National Championship is upon us and being proudly hosted by SAFA Ekurhuleni here in Tsakane, Gauteng Province. As SAFA, we are grateful for all the effort, commitment and energy that SASOL has unconditionally invested in the development of Women’s Football. Thanks for being both the foundation of and building block towards our newly launched SAFA National Women’s League (SNWL). For the first time in the history of this tournament, the nine Provincial Champions will not only compete for the National Championship bragging rights that go with the huge monetary prize, but this time around the two finalists will automatically be promoted to fill the vacant positions in the SNWL. We trust that Tsakane will be a good host for you the players to equally enjoy and express your football skills and may each team achieve its desired outcome. On behalf of the Competitions Committee, may I wish all stakeholders a fruitful tournament, a joyous festive season and prosperous 2020!
This year’s draw was conducted by SAFA NEC Member and Chairman of the Competitions Committee Mr Gladwyn White, Banyana Banyana Head Coach Desiree Ellis, SAFA Vice President and Acting CEO Mr Thamsanqa Gay Mokoena, Sasol Group Brand Marketing Manager Ms Nozipho Mbatha and SAFA Competitions Manager Mr Thomas Sadiki.
