MAYOR’S WELCOMEWelcome to the 57th Cairns Festival, a celebration for and by the people of Cairns.
Cairns Festival events will be held across the region from Babinda in the south to Trinity Beach in the north, with a full program that features music, art, theatre, film, comedy and more. As always the Cairns Esplanade will be the central heartbeat of the festival with annual favourites like the Grand Parade and Fireworks as well as the Festival Family Concert and Film Nights.
Munro Martin Parklands will host a blockbuster soundtrack to the festival with Queensland Symphony Orchestra performing some of our favourite movie scores such as Superman, Harry Potter, Star Wars and more.
City Lights features an expanded program with the mesmerising Cairns City Library projection now being complemented by multimedia
installations right across the city. Make sure you also get involved with the Suburban Satellites when they beam out to Babinda, Freshwater
and Trinity Beach with a free program including music, spoken word and community art projects.
This year’s program is full of surprises and with most events FREE there is no reason not to venture out and get involved
in our annual celebration.

The City Lights program engages local and national artists to create large scale projection and multimedia installations. Since 2015 the Cairns City Library has been transformed with large scale projections, this year for the first time the City Lights program will expand beyond the library to feature projections and installations across the city. The City Lights program
speaks to the culture, history and lifestyle of Tropical North Queensland, transforming spaces into outdoor galleries of pictures, sound and light.
CITY LIGHTS
Mix Tape has been developed collaboratively between AGB Events and artist Vanghoua Anthony Vue. The digital artwork re-interprets Vue’s ‘tape-affitis’, tape-based installations.
The work reflects the artist’s experiences growing up in Cairns and the complexities of his Hmong-Australian heritage, drawing on Vue’s experiences during cyclone seasons, the tropical surrounds, the do-it-yourself approach and resilience of Vue’s parents, and the push and pull of language, culture, identity and place.
AGB Events are specialists in creating public celebrations, innovative experiences and 3D artworks that are responsive to place, audiences, local stories and culture.

HUMANS BY CIRCA
THURSDAY 30 & FRIDAY 31 AUGUSTTANK 3, TANKS ARTS CENTRE | 8PMADULTS $36.75 / CONC $31.50
Ten acrobats take us on a stirring journey of what it means to be human, and of how our bodies, our connections, and our aspirations all form part of who we are.Exploring the physical limits of their bodies as they are pushed to the extreme, they question how much we can take as humans. How much weight can we carry? Who can we trust to support our load? They lead us to reflect on our lives, our loved ones, the burdens we carry and the physical and emotional strength it takes to overcome them.
CREATED BY YARON LIFSCHITZ AND THE CIRCA ENSEMBLE
