Codes and ConventionsIn Horror.

Horror films often involve a very generic and recognisable set of codes and conventions that will give the audience the idea that they are watching a horror film.

This is important in informing the audience of what to expect from the film and give them an idea of the plot and content, which in itself

is very inviting as the audience would then know what to expect.

Black, white and red colour scheme. Black has the connotations of evil, and darkness, while red has the

connotations of danger and blood. White has the connotations of supernatural.

Iconic images (knife, dirt, blood, eyes, mask)

Pointed, angular fonts.

Low key lighting and use of pockets of light to create shadows.

Female Victim, often represented as a "damsel in distess" of a "scream queen"

Antagonist has a shadowed face or mask.

Large font, often eye catching.

Well known stars and directors are clearly referenced, often giving an example of their other work.
