An increase to the Council on Legislation dues goes into effect in July, and it will be reflected on the July club invoice. The Rotary International Board of Directors approved the increase from $1 to $1.50 in October 2014. The Council, which meets every three years, will meet between April 10 and 15 in Chicago.
The Council considers proposals to change RI’s constitutional documents and resolutions that express an opinion or make a recommendation to the Board. RI’s Bylaws, which govern the relationship between Rotary International and Rotary clubs, can be changed only by legislation by the Council. The bylaws include provisions covering the formation of new clubs, types of membership within a club, club voting in district elections, and per capita dues.

Wisdom is knowing who to be and what to do in a given situation. Virtue is acting on that wisdom.
Every single person you meet knows at least one thing that you don’t!
The reason we struggle with our insecurities is because we compare our behind-the-scene moments with the rest of the world’s highlight reel.
Knowing others is intelligence.Knowing yourself is true wisdom.Mastering others is strength.Mastering yourself is power.
A long life may not be good enough, but remember that a good life is long enough.
We have to protect not only what we have inherited, but also what we leave behind for our children.
Life is best understood backwards, but, it is best experienced forwards.

PDG Shirish Sheth is a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town and has been a leader not only in Rotary but also in his profession. PDG Sirish’s devotion to medicine and Rotary is probably genetic as his late father, Padma Bhushan and Honorary Surgeon Commodore Dr Shantilal C Sheth, was both a doctor and a Rotarian as well. PDG Shirish trained as an obstetrician-gynaecologist (OB-GYN) and was a Consultant Gynaecologist and Honorary Professor at KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College in Mumbai for several decades and is Consultant Gynaecologist at the Breach Candy and Saifee Hospitals in Mumbai. His talent for innovation, drawn from his late father, resulted in ‘Shirishbhai’, as he is affectionately known, becoming an expert on vaginal surgery, having conducting several teaching workshops around the world as well as 40 cities in India. He has not only given numerous lectures around the world but has also been recognized for his work by being conferred Honorary Fellowships and also Memberships in International OB-GYN Societies around the world. His contributions to scientific literature have been numerous and he has also been awarded Lifetime Achievement Awards
from the National Societies of India and the USA. However, the crowning achievement of his work as a gynaecologist came when in 2000 he was elected President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO, representing 102 countries worldwide), the world’s foremost organization for this specialised field of medicine.
PDG Shirish’s achievements as a Rotarian have been just as meritorious as his professional achievements. He served as our Club’s President in 1976–77. His year was marked by the same drive for action as in his professional life. Activities during the year brought two trophies to the Club as well, the Rotary Service Wheel for outstanding work in all the four avenues of service, jointly with the Rotary Club of Bombay, his late father’s Club. Furthermore, as a Rotarian gynaecologist, he personally performed more than 10,000 laparoscopic sterilisations in rural areas in District 314 between 1977–1983. He served as District Chairman of Committees and also led the GSE Team to District 542 (Utah and Idaho in the USA).
At the District level, Shirishbhai was elected District

Governor of Rotary International District 3140 for the 1983–84 year. He further represented District 3140 at the Council on Legislation as well a variety of representations at a Senior Rotary Leadership level. There is no doubt that Shirishbhai belongs to the international group of Senior Rotary Leaders. However, the crowning honour came with Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award in 2002. This is the highest award that Rotary International has to offer.
R/Ann Siloo Sheth has also been very active. She was the founder secretary and later the President of the Inner Wheel of our Rotary Club and participated in many of the medical projects initiated by her husband. PDG Shirish and Siloo have a daughter, Saloni, a Fashion Designer, who is married to Mr Amish Jaitha, a businessman. Amish’s great great grandfather was Gordhandas Sunderdas after whom Seth GS Medical College (KEM Hospital) is named. Thus, the medical connection continues into the next generation.

An AppealDear Rotarian friends,
The Almighty has indeed been kind to us. We are the privileged ones in the society and the community we live in. We must, however, use such privileges as an opportunity to serve society.
The Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town provides you with such an opportunity through many impressive projects requiring your support. Spare a moment and glance through the list (next page). Your arms are bound to open out and embrace one or more of these noble causes and give back to society a bit of what it has given you.
President R. P. Anand and I appeal to your generosity to heartily donate directly, or arrange donations through your friends & associates, a sum of at least R20, 000 per Mid-Towner, to enable us to collect the target figure of R20 to 25 lacs required to sponsor these impressive projects. Larger donations and /or project-specific donation are welcome.
Your kind donation, by way of cheque favouring “The Bombay Mid-Town Rotary Trust”, may be forwarded to the Rotary office (Donations eligible for deduction u/s 80G of IT Act). Alternatively, you could also arrange full page advertisement inserts in our Bulletin for R10, 000 per insert page.
Together, we can transform lives and build a better future for the poor and underprivileged members of our society-but without you, it would just not be possible.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your generosity and support.Yours-in-Rotary
Bimal Shroff R. P. Anand
