Requirements for Observation

• HIPPA General Awareness Training– http://privacy.health.ufl.edu/– Confidentiality Statement– Can get a copy of your certificate on this page– Training MUST be renewed ANNUALLY!

• Immunizations– MMR– Hep B series (must be started)– Varicella TITER– Current PPD

• If more than 1 year old needs to be redone

Signing up for Observation

• Book in 435 Dauer– Variety of populations and locations

• Morning and Afternoon time slots– You should be available for the entire block

– It is disruptive for you to come and go

• Be contentious of your fellow students– Don’t be a “sign up hog”

– Remove your name if you aren’t going

• Do NOT wait until the end of the semester!

Things to Think About

• Signing up for a 4 hour slot does not mean you will receive 4 hours of observation

• Feel free to ask questions – when it is appropriate• The professionals you are observing are not

being compensated for you being there– They are interested in your education

• You are going into a professional atmosphere and are expected to act as such– Which brings me to the issue of ……

Please keep in mind that you will be in professional clinics,

and as professionals we need to dress the part. 

Tops

• Guys – Button down shirt and tie

• Girls– Blouses long enough to be tucked in– Neck lines should not show cleavage– No tank tops or spaghetti straps without a

jacket or sweater

Bottoms

• Pants– Nice slacks that have been pressed

• Skirts– Long enough for you and your patient not to feel

uncomfortable when you bend over– Should be no shorter than 2” above the knee

• Dresses– No strapless or spaghetti straps without a sweater or

jacket– Should meet same length requirements as skirts

What’s Not OK

Shoes

• Guys– Dress shoes

• Girls– No flip-flops or beach shoes– Dress sandals are acceptable in some clinics

What’s Not OK

A Few Notes

– denim in any form

– shorts

– loose shirttails

– halter tops

– overalls

– tank tops

– thong sandals

– tight pants/shirts

– sweat suits/sweatshirts

– casual oversized shirts

– sun dresses

– strapless dresses

– miniskirts

Things that are never OK:

A Few More Notes

• No more than two earrings per ear, no other visible pierced jewelry

• Tattoos should not be visible; if in a visible spot, they should be covered completely while in clinic

• Outfits that are trendy are not necessarily appropriate for the clinic situation

• If you are not dressed appropriately you may be asked to leave clinic.  You will NOT receive any hours for that day.
