PASSIVE AND ACTIVE VOICE

1. PAST VOICE

ACTIVE VOICE:

SUBJECT + VERB + OBJECT (AGENT) (PAST)

Example:

THE CAT KILLED THE MOUSE.

PASSIVE VOICE:

(Past

Participle Verb) IF IS NECESSARY

OBJECT + WAS/WERE + PPV + (BY _______)

(AGENT)

Example:

THE MOUSE WAS KILLED (BY THE CAT)

EXAMPLES:• ACT: A man saw a UFO yesterday.• PASS: A UFO was seen yesterday (by a man).

• ACT: The police found exotics birds in a house.• PASS: Exotics birds were found in a house.

ACTIVE VOICE:

SUBJECT + WILL + VERB + OBJECT

Example:

I WILL WRITE A LETTER.

PASSIVE VOICE:

(Past Participle Verb) IF IS NECESSARY

OBJECT + WILL + BE + PPV + (BY _______)

(AGENT)

Example:

A LETTER WILL BE WRITTEN (BY ME).

• ACT: People will wear plastic clothes.• PASS: Plastic clothes will be worn (by people).

• ACT: Robots will replace boyfriends.• PASS: Boyfriends will be replaced by robots.
