Reading in Year One• A member of staff will read with your child

once a week • The teacher will assess your child’s reading

and put them on an appropriate level• Please encourage independence: allow your

child to choose their own reading book• Reading bags should go home daily• New reading diaries (please write in them!)• Daily phonics sessions• Reading Interventions

Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA)

• All teachers get at least 10% of their working time to plan, prepare and assess

• PPA time in Year One is on a Wednesday morning

• The PPA Teacher is Jan Barker

• 3 exciting activities: Music composition, Forest Schools and mental maths for the Autumn Term

Methodist Church: RE, PSCE and geography links

How To Help Your Child• Talk and Discuss! When talking with your child try to use

questioning and explaining language, such as, why, who, where, when, how… I think this because….

• Read at home• Learn to read and write keywords• Attend Workshops (Literacy: 24th October 7pm-8pm,

Maths: November 14th 7pm-8pm)

• Parent folder• You are very welcome to come and help in

class. Please arrange this with your teacher. Eg Library parents, working in the classroom, Friday letters, expertise eg playing instruments

Keeping You Informed• Parent Workshops on Writing and

Maths• Parent Consultations in November,

March and July (Celebration Afternoon)

• Open Communication: Dialogue. Please talk to us about concerns before they become worries! After school is usually best. We are happy to talk on the phone at lunchtime. Please share successes and experiences with us. As your child’s primary role model and educator, you will help us to ‘get the full picture’.
