    Applications Now Open for 2011 City Services Academy

    Have you ever wondered how your city government provides services and works with the community? Are you interestedmeeting other community members and getting a behind-the-scenes look at civic facilities such as the Police Station? Joinfor the 2011 City Services Academy to see first-hand how the City of San Mateo serves our community. Open to individuwho live or work in San Mateo, the Academy begins on August 31 and continues every Wednesday night through November (including one Saturday session).     Be Ready, Be Safe, Be Involved!

    On June 20, the Council will adopt the Citys 2011-12 budget for the nex

    fiscal year beginning in July. The proposed $78 million General Fun

    operating budget (which funds most City services) closes a $7.9 million

    shortfall through department cost savings, reductions in capital project

    funding, and employee cost reductions. This budget is consistent with theCitys financial sustainability plan approved in November 2010 to reduce

    long-term costs and provide a financially-sustainable future for the City.

    During the summer, the City Council will meet on June 20, July 18, and

    August 15. Council meetings start at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall CouncChambers located at 330 West 20th Avenue. In addition to attending i
