I’m sure all of us can think
of things that we are thank-
ful for this past year and
hopeful for in the upcoming
year of 2012.
With that being said, Sector
212 unfortunately ended the
year 2011 with an increase
in violent crime for the
month of December.
The main crime that in-
creased drastically during
the Month of December was
Individual Robberies. We
had a reported 20 Individual
Robberies for the Month of
December. The majority of
those robberies occurred in
the Southwood Apartment
Complex. An analysis of
those robberies showed the
majority of Individual Rob-
beries occurred during the
evening hours from 6:00 PM
to 1:00 AM. In addition, the
majority of victims were in an
apartment complex parking lot.
The victims were either exiting
their vehicles walking to their
apartments or leaving their
apartments to go to their vehi-
cles.
With that being said, it is ex-
tremely important for everyone
to be aware of their surround-
ing when exiting or walking in
a parking lot, especially during
the evening hours.
Additionally, always try to
park in a well lighted area and
survey the area before exiting
or entering your vehicle. If you
do not feel safe, then leave the
area immediately and call 911
to report any suspicious activi-
ties or persons so that the po-
lice can respond and take ac-
tion.

In response to this increase in
Individual Robberies, the
Richmond Police Department
has increased patrol officers
throughout the entire Sector
212 area. But as always, we
need the communities help in
or effort to make the area a
safer place for all residents!
If you should notice any sus-
picious persons or vehicles in
the area, do not hesitate to
contact the police by calling
911 and giving a detailed de-
scription of the suspicious
persons or vehicles.

If you should see anyone lurking around your vehicle or a
neighbor’s vehicle, immediately call 911 so the police can
respond to the area and investigate the situation.
Always stay alert for suspicious activity within your
neighborhood and alert the police as soon as possible
should you observe any suspicious activity.
And remember to look out for your neighbors as I am sure
your neighbors will return the favor and look out for you!
IT’S COLD OUTSIDE…..
None of us like to walk outside of
our warm homes into frigid tem-
peratures to sit in even frostier
vehicles.
So some people prefer to start
their vehicles and let them “warm
up” for a few minutes while they
return back inside their warm
homes.
But while these individuals are
staying toasty in their warm
homes and feel that their vehicles
are safe “warming up” just out-
side of their home where they can
still have sight of their vehicle,
offenders are quickly taking ad-
vantage of these nice warm rides
ready to be driven off.
Almost half of all motor vehicles
that were stolen during the Month
of December were cars that were
left running with the keys in the
ignition and unoccupied. It only
takes a few seconds for an offender
to jump in a vehicle left running
with no one inside. Then unfortu-
nately, the victim is the one left in
the cold while the offender drives
off in a “warmed up” vehicle.
The same is to be said for when
you are pumping gas at the gas
station or running into the conven-
ience store to pick up a quick item.
Never leave your vehicle running
with the keys in the ignition at any-
time!!
