Jessamyn West
About twenty years after the royal wedding of Cinderella with the prince
and future king, her son Christian was conscripted in the war declared by
the king of the next country. He spent the last night with the company of a
young girl, named Esmeralda, the daughter of one of the half-sisters of
Cinderella.
"Tomorrow I'm leaving for the front." Christian muttered under the
moon lit up the starry sky.
"Be careful, don't step forward, don't ask for it." Esmeralda
responded.
"I am their leader, if I don't, who will? Anyway... I hope everything
goes well. Will you miss me at all?" He stared deep into her green eyes.
"Yes, I will miss you." He leaned to kiss her, but at that time a cough
was heard from his faithful servant, Paul.
"Excuse me, Highness, you'd better go to rest. Your mother is waiting
for you at the farewell dinner. After all, you have a big day
tomorrow."
"You are right Paul. I'd better go." And addressing to Esmeralda he
said: "I love you Esmeralda... See you soon."
"Goodnight Christian..." she mumbled, "...be careful." Christian was
unable to take his eyes off her. Esmeralda sighed, gazing at the sky.
