● From the process side:o Put aside the classic P&I process o Experiment w/service tools that maximize design and construction communication o So parts are built once correctlyo Mixes two department service tools; Collaborative Review and Team Plan Review

● From the technology side:o Plan Review/Inspections team works inside owner’s BIM project siteo Reviewing the overall code compliance strategyo Inspectors work in the BIM project site on their inspection site visits

o work with iPads, viewing web based permit sets o enter results directly into the BIM toolo which are then exported to our POSSE records system

o Owner’s team and Meck agree the construction site will be as paperless as possible

Note: actually getting there gets into the “old dog-new trick” issue on all sides

Virtual Inspection Pilot

GOAL: answer a BIM-IPD industry question of

whether 3D modeling tools could be used for

virtual inspections, to check for code compliance

issues and details before the full scale model is

constructed.o Identify both the benefit of using BIM for virtual

inspections

o …………………and the limits

Pilot Program AE Seal Use in BIM-IPD

Purpose: provide temporary alternate rules for use

of AE seals when working with BIM in a

collaborative project delivery method.

Goal: identify and suggest roadblocks to BIM-

Collaborative Delivery work, which currently exists

in Board Rules.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING (BIM):

Model based technology linked with a data base of project information, using three

three dimensional, real time dynamic modeling software, to plan all building

construction. The model encompasses building geometry, spatial relationships,

geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components. The

The model may be used for project design and construction, as well as long term

facility management.

INTEGRATED PROJECT DELIVERY (IPD):

A project delivery method that integrates key participants (Owner, Architect,

Engineer, Contractor, Code Official, et al), systems, business structures and practices

into a process that collaboratively plans and constructs facilities. The collaborative

process begins in early design and continues through all phases of design, fabrication

and construction.
