Christianity vs Islam The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• In our study of Christianity vs Islam we have examined both the Bible and the Koran as well as examined the evidence which shows:

1. Allah to be a manmade god (another form of Baal)

2. Muhammad cannot be a prophet. 3. The value of women and men to be equal. 4. God wants peace in the name of Jesus Christ 5. The Koran cannot be from God. 6. The Bible is superior to the Koran

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Our goals ser forth during this study were two-fold:

1. Lovingly show that Islam cannot logically be the one true religion upon which our souls depend.

2. Christianity is the one true religion and superior to ALL other religions.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Therefore it is now that we can set forth and demonstrate our final proposition of the original four we set out to prove:

1. The Key Character and Deities in both religions.

(COMPLETED) 2. The Authority of both religions (COMPLETED) 3. The Morality of Both religions (COMPLETED)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• This morning as we conclude our study of Christianity vs Islam we will seek to examine

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ as found in the New Testament.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Since we have proven the Koran to be insufficient as another Revelation from God.

• Proven Allah and Muhammad to be incompatible with divine properties by showing an ethical and moral void.

• Proven the Bible, God the Father does posses attributes that show it to be beyond mere human invention.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

Then we may confidently conclude that whatever it says concerning Jesus Christ is true, accurate and directly applicable for our eternal souls.

It is with this in mind that we examine our final lesson in this series: The Person and Work of Jesus Christ.

Examining the Messiah

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

In no other way is the superiority of Christianity over all other religions more evident than in Jesus Christ.

The Koran speaks of Jesus Christ in only 28 of its 6,000 verses

However it is almost never favorably…

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; other messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.

~ The Koran (Surah 5:75)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

“In these few words the Christian doctrine of the divinity of Jesus Christ is repudiated. The nature of the Messiah is clear from the indications given here; He was merely a human being… How could any reasonable person believe that such a being was either God or a partner or associate in His godhead? But the Christians continue to insist on the divinity of the Messiah… (continued)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

…They have woven a Messiah out of their imagination have defied that imaginary being.”

~ Islamist Political Philosopher

Sayyid Abul A’la Maududi

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• It is this verse in which the Koran and Muslim’s use to justify their denial of the deity of Jesus Christ (as the world does).

• The New Testament is overwhelmed by verses that demonstrate Jesus Christ to be Deity, the Son of God, Savior, and Messiah

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

~ Romans 1:1-4

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell.

~ Colossians 1:15-19

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

~ Matthew 16:15-16

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed

~ John 20:27-29

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• A human Messiah who is not divine is no Messiah.

• In fact, the Old Testament (Which the Koran claims Allah is responsible for) contains several passages that tell us that the Messiah would be human and divine.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

~ Isaiah 7:14

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

~ Isaiah 9:6

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him… But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. ~ Isaiah 53:2,5

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”

~ Micah 5:2

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• The Koran isn’t just denying the foundation of Christianity, it is outright denying confirmable historical facts:

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. (continued)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

~ 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—“Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

~ Acts 2:22-24

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• The Koran simply denies Jesus was ever crucified:

And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the

Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah ." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. (continued)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

And they did not kill him, for certain. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

~ The Koran (Surah 4:157-158)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

Mention when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

~ The Koran (Surah 3:55)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• The Koran and Muhammad attacks and denies the Core doctrines of Christianity without so much as a single shred of evidence.

• The Koran commands you to accept at face value that two of histories greatest events never happened.

• The Bible does not expect people to blindly follow Christ without evidence.

The Value of a Witness

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

A witness can best be described as: (1) A person who testifies under oath with first-

hand experience. (2) A person who sees an event. Any legal case cannot be made without sufficient

witnesses who are able to verify claims which are made.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• The only witness to Muhammad’s account is….Muhammad.

• Muhammad had no witnesses present when he claimed that the angel Gabriel appeared to him and conferred upon him the status of prophet. Nor are there any claims as such in the Koran, nor are their miracles performed by Muhammad which would have been needed according to John and Jesus Christ Himself.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

~ John 20:30-31

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”

~ Matthew 9:6

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• According to Peter the disciples were eye-witnesses.

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables

when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” ~ 2 Peter 1:16

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Paul talks about just how many people saw Jesus Christ after He was raised:

That He was buried, and that He rose again the third day

according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

~ 1 Corinthians 15:4-8

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Consider just how many verifiable miracles Jesus did in the presence of His disciples, multitude, the Scribes and Pharisees.

- Turned Water to Wine (John 2:1-11)

- Cured the nobleman’s son (John 4:46-47)

- The Great haul of fish (Luke 5:1-11)

- Casting out demons (Mark 1:23-28)

- Healing Peter’s Mother-In-Law (Mark 1:30-31)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Healing a Leper (Mark 1:40-45)

• Raising the widows son from the dead (Luke 7:11-18)

• Calming the Storm (Matthew 8:23-27)

• Healing the Paralytic (Matthew 9:1-8)

• Healed the blind and mute (Matthew 9:27-33)

• Fed Five Thousand from five loaves and two fish (Matthew 14:15-21).

• Christ Rose From the Dead (John 21:1-14)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• This doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what we have recorded and verified in front of witnesses.

• John tells us there were even more than the 34 plus miracles we have recorded in the gospel accounts.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• If the Koran were truly from God, then where are the miracles and where are the witnesses?

• Islam manipulates and threatens its followers who die for the cause of Allah.

• Men and women believed in Jesus Christ and followed him freely of their own will. Even risking their own lives to die for what Islam and the world calls a lie. They were never forced, guilt tripped, or degraded by God… instead they were Free (John 8:32)

We Saw Thee Not Ann Richter & John H. Gurney

But we believe thy footsteps trod its streets and plains, Thou Son of God.

But we believe the deed was done, that shook the earth and veiled the Son.

But we believe that angels said, “Why seek the living with the dead?”

But we believe that human eyes beheld that journey to the skies.

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

• Today we believe not because we hold onto a blind faith.

• But because the evidence for Christianity and Jesus Christ the Messiah is so overwhelming that we simply cannot deny it.

• “The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” ~ Hebrews 11:1

Conclusion
