Teacher Training Day and Half Term Don’t forget that school is closed to all
children on Monday 25th February for
teacher training and it is the half term
between 18th and 22nd February.
Fairtrade Fortnight (25th February to Friday 8th March) To support our work on Fairtrade our school Fairtrade shop will be open
again during Fairtrade Fortnight. There will be a number of items for sale
including Fairtrade crafts, snacks and chocolate. Any food purchased from
the shop must be eaten after school. Prices range from 5p to £3 with
many items costing less than £1.50.
Attendance Our attendance for the spring half term can be seen below.
Well done to Reception, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 who all achieved above
96%. A special well done to Year 2 for achieving 98.4% - top of the school!
Our whole school percentage is 96.1% so we are still on track to achieve our
target.
School Uniform and Overall Presentation The vast majority of our children attend school correctly dressed for the
school day with appropriate footwear, no earrings or other jewellery and
hair tied back. All pupils with medium to long hair should have it tied back
each day to reduce the risk of head lice spreading and for health and safety
purposes earrings, necklaces and bracelets should not be worn. We are
seeing a number of our younger children wearing earrings – these SHOULD
NOT be worn in school. If your child is having their hair cut during the
holidays, please remember that tramlines should not be shaved into hair. If
you are buying new shoes these should be all black – we are seeing a
number of children wearing trainers or shoes with thick white soles. Can we
also ask that your child’s name is written inside all school uniform so that we
can return misplaced or forgotten items to children quickly and easily.
World Book Day – Thursday 7th March We will once again be supporting World Book Day this year and are inviting children to come dressed as
their favourite book character. During the day we will also be having book quizzes for each key stage. The
questions for the quiz will be taken from the books listed below:
KS1 books to read: KS2 books to read:
Peppa Pig Winnie the Pooh Mr Men and Mr Tickle The Very Hungry Caterpillar Dr Seuss Peter Rabbit Humpty Dumpty Horrid Henry Rainbow Fairies The Gruffalo Spot the Dog Topsy and Tim The Odd Egg

This is sure to be another fun packed day in school which will help support our children in improving their
reading skills and enjoying books. We cannot wait to see the amazing costumes which always appear.
Be Activities Wise - Helping to keep children safe in sports and social activities during school holidays in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Are your children getting involved in sports or social activities in the school holi-days? It’s okay to Be Activities Wise and check your children will be safe with the people leading the activity. Find out more: https://bit.ly/2Rf3yxg This campaign has been developed by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Stoke-on-Trent Safeguarding Children Board. For further information, visit the Be Activities Wise page at www.safeguardingchildren.stoke.gov.uk
25 Day Reading Challenge Following feedback from some parents and children there will be a new reading challenge in place after half term. We are now setting children the challenge of reading at home for at least 25 days during the next half term. This means if the children miss a day they do not return to zero to try again. Hopefully this will see more of our children reading regularly at home enjoying a wide range of books. Maybe a great place to start will be some of the books on the World Book Day list.
Parking Parking is once again causing problems for children,
parents and staff. The number of cars parking out-
side the school on William Street has increased to a
dangerous level again. Staff members arriving back
to school or who have to leave before the end of
the day are finding it difficult to access the car park
due to the number of parked cars by the gates and
sometimes blocking the school exit. The parked
cars make it very difficult for our walking families
when they leave or enter school as well as making it
difficult for other drivers to see any pedestrians.
We need everybody’s help to reduce the number of
parked vehicles outside of the school at the busy
times during the day.
SEN Working Party The next meeting of our SEN working party is taking place
on 14th March at 9am. This is your chance to ask any
questions you may have about our SEN provision and help
us ensure that we are providing the very best education for
your children. Refreshments will be available so please
come along.
Wanted Our foundation stage are in need of
spare clothes in case of accidents in
school. If you have any unwanted
underwear, skirts, shorts, trousers or
socks that you could donate which
would be suitable for our foundation
stage children they would be greatly
received. Could we ask that all
borrowed clothes are returned to
school so they can be used again.
