The A Chord And “Fat Fingers”
Alternate Forms Of The “A” Chord
A Chord Form #1 Even though in the diagram it looks like the fingers are all right next to each other, in reality the 1st finger is usually farther from the 2nd fret and the 3rd finger is closer.
This makes the whole thing look more like an angle.
A Chord Form #2 This is probably my favorite form and the one I use most often. To make it work the knuckle on the 1st finger has to pop up in the air and pressed down on both the 4th and 3rd strings like a little mini bar with the top part of your finger.
Also be sure the 2nd finger doesn't touch the 1st string and deaden it.
Like anything it takes a bit of practice.

A Chord Form #3 Because the forefinger is smaller than the other fingers this form takes a little less space than form #1.
However I usually use this form if for some reason I want to have the 1st finger free.
A Chord Form #4 I've seen enough people finger the A chord this way that I wanted to include it, but I don't see any advantages to doing this over the other forms.

Solving The “F” Chord

I show in the video several versions of the F chord and for many people the partial bar F chord is a good place to start. However, don't rule out starting off with the full bar chord.
For some this is actually easier once they practice the bar itself. It also opens the door more quickly to playing bar chords up and down the neck.
Keep in mind that you'll actually need all versions of this chord eventually and there's no wasted learning here no matter which one you decide to start on.
Here’s what the finger looks like when playing a partial bar:

The B Minor [Bm] Chord
The B minor is a very useful chord... but often difficult for beginning guitar players. It really doesn't need to be so difficult. My approach is to teach students the easier chord first and then build up to the more difficult forms.
The good part is that even the easiest form sounds good and will always be useful. Even after you've mastered the more difficult forms you'll find times when a simple form is just what's needed for particular situation. There's no lost effort here.

The Bb [B Flat] Major Chord
Make the a chord with your second, third and fourth fingers. Place them side by side on the second fret of the guitar… on the fourth, third and second strings. You are now playing an A major chord if
your fingers are all behind the second fret.
Now move all the fingers up one fret (also known as a half step). Put your first finger down on the first fret on the first string. You are now fingering a B-flat major chord. Strike the notes on the top four strings only.

Diminished Chord Exercise Here’s the chord chart for the exercise we did in the video. I’d recommend you memorize it as quickly as possible so you can concentrate on playing the chords smoothly.
Movable Chord Form The A#dim7 form I showed you in this lesson so far is not movable because it includes an open string. No problem. To fix that we’ll just change the fingering around a little bit so the first finger can stretch over and play the 5th string.

Jazzy Cool Chords Progression #3 Play-Along
This is the chord chart for the Play-Along videos written in standard music nota- tion. Each slanted line means you play the chord once. Play all the way from the beginning until you reach the repeat sign. Then go back to the beginning. The sec- ond time through continue to the end (double solid lines).

Tension & Release I created this diagram below to point out how tension and release is being used in this standard progression to create interest and a feeling of moving forward.
