A Game You Should Not Play

Adapted from Aesop’s FableDesigned by : Azizah Fikri Rifdah

Once upon a time, a boy called Somad had to look after his father’s sheep. Every day, Somad took the sheep up the hill where the grass was rich and green.

While the sheep grazed on the hill, Somad sat on a rock and watched them. Every day, he sat on the same rock and watched the sheep. He was bored and lonely. “I have nothing to do,”hetought.

One day, he decided to play a game. He ran down the hill crying, “Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!”

All the villagers rushed out of their houses and ran up the hill. Somad laughed at them

because there was no wolf.

The next day, Somad was bored and lonely again. He palyed the same game. “Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!” he cried, running down the hill.

The villagers rushed out of their houses and ran up the hill a second time. Somad laughed at them again because there was no wolf. The villagers were very angry. 

The next week, when Somad was bored and lonely, he played the same game again. He ran down the hill and cried, “Wolf!” But the villagers did not rush out of their houses. They remained at home

Somad went back to his sheep. Then the wolves came, Somadcried, “Wolves! Wolves! Wolves!” The villagers heard him but they did not rush out of their houses. They remained at home.

That day, Somad cried bitterly because he lost five of his father’s sheep.
