Properly write a chemical symbol

All elements in the Periodic Table have symbols that are recognized world wide.

It does not matter which country you are in or the language you speak.

Example: The element Iron is always identified by “Fe” and Oxygen is “O”.

The names are not always the same but the symbols are. “Fe” is iron in Canada, fer in France and fier in Romania.

• You have been given a mystery bag of mixed “elements”. Each M&M represents an atom of an element, and each color represents a different type of element, with its own symbol, given in the chart below. Before opening your bag of elements, hypothesize about how many of each type of element you have been given. • Taking turns, you and your partner will build 7 different compounds for each other. Record the number of atoms of each element used in the compound in the chart, and then write the formula for the compound in the space provided. You may reuse the elements as needed to make the different compounds.
