CHARITY CHALLENGE 2011

Victoria Evans & James Stephenson climbed Mount Fuji on 1st July 2011 to raise funds for Architecture for Humanity on the Japan Tsunami and ‘Quake project

Architecture for Humanity

On March 11th 2011 an 8.9 earthquake struck off the shores of northern Japan.

Early data suggests this is the largest earthquake to hit the island nation and a tsunami of waves as high as 33ft struck the coast near Sendai.

In partnership with Nike Inc., Architecture for Humanity is working with local architects in Osaka and Kyoto to respond to those affected by the Sendai earthquake and tsunami.

The organisation has identified a local community group to rebuild and help to restore normalcy to the lives of those displaced.

PROJECT:

March: Local team assembled (underway) April: community organization identified (underway) May/June: design and development (underway) Aug-Nov: Construction documentation Dec-Feb: Construction Completed in Spring 2012

The greatest impact we can make is to focus on specific small scale building projects for local community organisations. These 'urban acupuncture' projects create a ripple effect of social cohesion and change.
