CHAOTIC INFLATIONARY THEORY

By Mona C

Who created it?

Introduced by Andrei Linde

Other Russian scientists

Formed theory in 1998

What is it?

An extension of the Big Bang theory

Helps explain why the universe expands

Not well-known theory

A very hot singularity appears – zone that squished matter into infinite density

It inflated (the ‘Big Bang’)

Went from very small to approximately size/temperature of universe now

Big Bang Theory

Matter grouped together to form stars, planets, and galaxies

Continues to slowly expand/cool now

Big Bang Theory, cont.

During period of inflation, universe doubled its size in 10 second (a decimal point followed by 36 zeroes and a 1)

Universe doubled in size again and again in same amount of time

At end of period, universe continued to grow as according to Big Bang Theory

Chaotic Inflation Theory

-37

The singularity (in the beginning) was a false vacuum – having gravitational repulsion

Pushed out all the matter inside it with such force that it doubled over and over extremely quickly
