On behalf of the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce, the festival committee, and our

sponsors, we would like to express our sincerest thanks to the great people who made our 39th Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival a success. All pro-ceeds are reinvested in the community through Chamber programs, products, and services. The festival is planned and hosted by Halifax County business people who work tirelessly to make Halifax County a great place to live, work and do business.

The Chamber is an organization of people who care deeply about this com-munity. It provides the opportunity for these people to unite to plan, organize and orchestrate events, meetings, forums, seminars, and partnerships to advance economic development, education, transportation, communica-tion, workforce development, advocacy and the many other functions of the Chamber.

Our sponsors provide us the ability to put on this event year after year and we are thankful for their unwaver-ing support. Major sponsors include: Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital (pre-senting sponsor); Danville Distributing (corporate sponsor); Edward Jones, Glerin Business Resources, Halifax County Farm Bureau, Microsoft, Terry VW Subaru, URW Community Fed-eral Credit Union, WAKG, and WHLF (platinum sponsors).

Countless hours are spent planning and working to host the event. 2019 Committee members include: Chair

Nancy Long, Edward Jones; Charles Anderson, Charles Anderson Lawncare Services; Brian Burton, JE Burton Con-struction; Lauren Davis, Edward Jones; Jeremy Holt, Long and Foster; Ashley Long Tolsma and Jason McCormick, Davenport Energy; Nick Long, 95.3 WHLF Bruce Slagle, Halifax County Farm Bureau; Lauren Tetterton, South-ern Frills; and Patricia Thomas.

The Chamber would also like to thank the following for aiding before and after the festival: Tom and Char-lene Conner, Charles Anderson Team

Members, members of the SVHEF staff, North Halifax Fire Department, Rotary Club of South Boston, South Boston Public Works, South Boston Police Department, Halifax County Rescue Squad, and Halifax County Sheriff’s Department.

The festival wouldn’t be possible without the support of our business community and the wonderful people who attend this fundraising event and we hope to see you next year for the 40th anniversary of the Virginia Canta-loupe Festival!

The Chamber will host its 6th Annual Fall Classic Golf Tourna-ment in just under two months.

On September 27th teams will tee off at Halifax Country Club.

The tournament will be in a 4-man scramble format with tee times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Although there are morning tee times available, the afternoon is full. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase your business while networking with fellow community and business leaders,” stated Chamber President Mitzi Mc-Cormick. “We also have some amazing prizes to give away for the closest to the pin, longest drive and a cash prize for the hole-in-one,” she continued.

Birdie sponsors for the tournament include Danville Distributing, Dominion Energy-Clover Power Station, Fairfield by Marriott, and Wells Fargo Advi-sors. Proceeds will support Chamber programs and services and Workforce Services at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, both vital to

the future of Halifax County. Additional information on team regis-

tration can be found on the Chamber’s website www.halifaxchamber.net.
