Anchoring fast-growing southeast Calgary, the communities of Cranston and Auburn Bay by Brookfield Residential made their mark with Herald readers, with both being recognized in the Readers’ Choice New Community category.

Although the two communities separated by the Deerfoot each have unique personalities, they also have a lot in common, says Jason Palacsko, vice-president of operations for Brookfield’s Calgary Communities division.

“With both neighbourhoods, it’s about an opportunity to live in an established area with a real sense of community,” he says. “Homeowners talk about the feeling they get living here. They know their neighbourhood and they feel like part of a community. I live in Auburn Bay myself and I feel that, too.”

The focal point of Auburn Bay is its lake, which has become

a popular gathering spot for families and friends to fish, swim or skate.

Cranston’s location on the escarpment overlooking the Bow River — with development underway in the river valley itself — gets residents up close to nature, thanks to natural areas and parks linking with Fish Creek Provincial Park. And there are the spectacular mountain views.

Palacsko says both

communities are still growing. “There are still about two or

three years left of construction in Auburn Bay and another four or five years left in Riverstone of Cranston along the river,” he says. “There are plenty of opportunities for people to buy into an established area without having to go through the pain of waiting for amenities.”

Both communities, for example, already have their own retail

hubs, with the Seton development and South Health Campus nearby providing other services. While Auburn Bay has its lake, Cranston has a seven-acre community park with a 22,000-sq.-ft. facility including splash park.

There is still plenty of opportunity to find a home in either neighbourhood.

“In Auburn Bay, we have released some lake-amenity lots — probably the best lake lots that

we’ve released to date,” Palacsko notes. “They have southwest exposure and a fantastic view of the lake. Albi Homes and Morrison Homes have two new show homes.

“And with Riverstone of Cranston, there’s a lot more product and now is the time to get in at that move-up level. Plus, we have some new townhome product as well.”

Palacsko says Brookfield chooses for its developments only builders that meet the highest standards of quality and customer service.

“We plan our communities from start to finish. We give our residents an opportunity to experience all facets of their lives,” Palacsko says. “You can move into a starter home or condo in the early years and, as you grow, you can move into an estate home.”

He also thanked Herald readers for their vote of confidence.

“We’re very proud of these communities. We’ve developed over 60 communities in Calgary and we’re proud of each one.”
