They came from Central Europe.

ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS CELTIC SITES IN IRELAND IS NEWGRANGE

SPIRALS AND CIRCLES CAN BE SEEN ON MANY CELTIC WORKS OF ART. SO, WE WOULD SAY THAT SPIRALS AREA FEATURE OF CELTIC ART

WHAT SHAPES CAN YOU SEE HERE?

These circles, squares and curved lines are also features of Celtic art. What do you

think these circles represent?

CELTIC PEOPLE ALSO WORKED WITH METALS. THEY MADE JEWELLERY AND

WEAPONS FROM METALS.

This is an example of Celtic jewellery. This is a brooch called the Tara Brooch,

have any of you heard of it

before?

A woman found this on a beach in Co. Meath 160 years ago.

The Celts were very gifted artists. They worked very hard at making detailed pieces. This is s close up of the Tara brooch. This would have taken many hours to make.

Can you notice the detailed etchings? What do you think they look like?

Another famous piece of Celtic art is the Ardagh Chalice. This was found by

some young boys diging potatoes in a field in 1868.

This may have been used for drinking from.
