Humility and self-knowledge go hand in hand.
Those who conduct their affairs with humility
shall be exalted, while those who exalt
themselves shall be humbled. The humble
shall rejoice and exalt before God in the
assembly of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Second Collection. This weekend, par ishes in the archdiocese
will be taking up the National Collection for The Catholic
University of America in Washington, DC. Now, more than
ever, the University is strategically positioned to pave the way
forward and help the laity play a significant role in healing.
Through hosting a conference series focused on laity response, and in creating an Institute
for Diocesan Excellence in Administration (IDEA) where lay scholars and professionals
can support clergy by providing expertise and accountability, Catholic University will
serve as a springboard in renewing and strengthening Catholicism in our country.
Your support of the National Collection will help us solve issues within the Church and
educate graduates who will leave campus ready to impact the Church, the nation, and the
world. We appreciate your generosity.
You can learn more at: collection.catholic.edu.
The Parish Offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.
Mass will be held at 9am.
The Priests, Deacons, and Staff hope you have a safe, enjoyable, and blessed Labor Day!
Prayer for Labor Day
On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, loving Father, we pray for all who
shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the
professions, and in family living.
We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure
of heart, for the good of others and the glory of your name.
We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the
rights and needs of workers everywhere.
May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable con-
tribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity.
May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in
eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as you live and reign Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
Everyday we are bombarded with messages about striving forward, reaching for the stars, overcoming all obstacles, attaining the impos-sible and then we come to church on Sunday and are told "What is too sublime for you, seek not, into things beyond your strength search not" (Sirach 3:20). How can we juggle what appears to be two radically different sets of values? There is nothing wrong with success. We get into trouble when we forget the real source of our success or when we grab for success at the expense of others. The humility we hear about today in our readings is a reminder that our talents and intelligence are gifts from God. Humility is our compre-hension of who we are in the eyes of God. Humility is remembering that we depend on God for everything. Humility is acknowledging that God is in control, not us.
"Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equali-ty with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross."
God and judge of all, you show us that the way to your kingdom
is through humility and service. Enable us to renounce the quest for power and privilege.
Give us the reward promised to those who make a place for the poor and the suffering.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever. AMEN.
Holy Trinity welcomes our newest parishioners!

Healing Masses: September 10, 6:30pm
and Friday, September 13, 12pm.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be
available during this Mass for every baptized Catholic
over the age of reason. Prayer teams will also be avail-
able immediately after Mass to pray with people for healing and
other needs.
Anointing of the sick primarily is for spiritual healing. Physical healing
might occur, but it is not the main purpose of the sacrament. Certainly the
sacrament should not be expected to automatically cure the sick person.
Such an expectation tends toward superstition (cf. CC2111). Baptized
children below the age of reason cannot commit personal sin and so do not
need anointing of the sick if they are in danger of death. Rather, when in
danger of death, such children can be given confirmation, for spiritual
strengthening and more fully to initiate them into the Christian religion.

11 Week BIBLE STUDY Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come
Wednesdays 6:30-8:30 PM Begins September 4
Facilitator: Alec MacDougall Suggested Dontation: $27/book
Unpack the Mysteries of Revelation Perhaps no book in the Bible fascinates people more than Revelation. Yet relatively few peo-ple have studied the book, especially from a Catholic perspective. This study shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the king-dom of heaven. Presenter Jeff Cavins pulls back the veil on the rich symbolism present in Revelation. Discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean and see how Revelation is more than an apocalyp-tic vision of the “end times.” Explore the Church’s teaching on the second coming of Christ and the Last Judgment. Understand how God, the Divine Bridegroom, and the Church, his spotless bride, enter into a heav-enly, holy, and mystical marriage every time we celebrate Mass.

That Man is You! Is an oppor-tunity for fellowship for men and formation in the Catholic Faith. It honestly addresses the pressures and tempta-tions that men face in our modern culture, especially those relating to their roles as husbands and fathers. The program harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive!
Knowing the true answers to these ques-tions matters! There are very important - life-changing - reasons for everything we believe and do as Catholics! In Catholic 101 you will learn about these things so that you can, grow in your relationship with Christ through His Church, and effectively help others do the same. This Series will meet 1X/month, usually 4th week of the month. Each month we will present a different topic and there will be three sessions to choose from with the same presentation each time.
TOPIC FOR SEPTEMBER:
In a world grown hostile to God, it is more important than ever to be able to defend him. In this class you will learn how to answer the common objections of Atheism with sound philosophy and common sense.
This class will meet for 2 weeks. CHOOSE FROM: (same presentation each time)
Mondays, September 23 & 30, 11:30am-2:00pm
Tuesdays, September 24 & October 1, 10:00-12:30pm
Tuesdays, September 24 & October 1, 6:30-9:00pm
Location: St. John Vianney Room
This class seeks to present the case for why belief in God is plausible and reasonable from a nonreligious perspec-tive. If you are already a believer, this class will give you some reasons why that is the case. If you are not a believer, we would like to provide important infor-mation that supports belief in God, and shows that people of faith are not irration-al fools.
