Unmet user needs Business leader:
How might we…
Increase revenue
Open a new channel
Create a new business mode
Community leader:
How might we…
Solve the social challenge in our hands
Increase our funding
Do the things people care
Employees:
We have ideas, and can help
Nobody asks us
Community:
Nobody asks us
Engagement is not easy to facilitate
3
Why Innovation fails: Lessons that shaped Twoor
1.Clear support from the top: Leader is behind challenge. Participants hear directly from the leader.
2.Clear follow-up on the top ideas: Leader support enables success. Clear expectations on the results of the challenge.
3.First set of ideas is shallow: Ideas start raw and improve with collaboration… Some people have ideas to share and some seek ideas that get them excited…connections help everyone win.
4.Innovation takes time: Leverage a Best in Class process for innovation, easy to follow.
4
Current Innovation platform pitfalls
• Expensive (customized, proprietary)
• Rich in processes…Capture the needed information…Generate great reports…however, the data rarely generates true innovation
Ideas languish as innovators lack a way to advance their ideas
5
Sponsor Launched Challenge
Participants create ideas
Build on each other ideas
Rank best ideas
Announce winner
Implement best ideas
But what if we follow a simple, best in class process
What happens?
6
1. How it works- Create a Challenge
• Create a challenge, using our proven templates
• Keep it simple – maximum three questions to answer
– How will this contribute to solving the challenge?
– Who will benefit?
– Have you seen something similar implemented somewhere else?
• Add a document with more details, only if absolutely needed
• A link to a video with the sponsor introducing the challenge is very helpful
7
2. How it works- Invite Challenge participants
• Very important – who is the Sponsor?
• Sponsor needs to be visible
– Ideas will be acted upon
– The sponsor will ensure funding for the top ideas
• Who are the participants – Public challenge (everyone can
participate)
– Only employees with a certain e-mail address format can attend (abc@ibm.com)
– A private group, entered as a set of e-mail addresses

2. Challenge participants submit ideas
• Participants submit their own ideas, via a simple form
• Or comment on others’ ideas
• Participants can “subscribe” to challenges and ideas
• Similar / Associated ideas are shown to participants, to further increase participation and ideation
10
3. Participants rate ideas, and add to them
• Participants can rate ideas (Likes, Potential Value, Estimated Cost)
• Participants comment on ideas
• Over time, best ideas surface to the top

And we focus the solution on the innovators?
Build Teams Recruit from across the
company or let them find

similar interests. Make
connections
Grow ideas Evolve your idea by
capturing notes, todos,
documents, and links to
relevant information.

Twoor.com gets results by focusing on the needs of innovators and
sponsors
• Major problems addressed:
– People want to lend their expertise to projects matching their interests, but are unaware of opportunities
– Leaders must facilitate innovation, but have little time
– Little recognition of participation or contributions
14

By creating a solution that works for innovators we have…

500%

launch a challenge
And provide all the best in class processes to sponsor and users
along the way
