Situation of the house

JOSEP PUIG CADAFALCH (Mataró, 17 October 1867

– Barcelona, 21 December 1956) was a Catalan “modernista” architect who designed many significant buildings in Barcelona. He was the architect of the “Casa Martí” (also known as "Els Quatre Gats"), which became a place of ideas, projects and social gatherings with another as Santiago Rusiñol or Ramon Casas.

ANTONI AMATLLER COSTA Antoni Costa Amatller

(Barcelona, 1851-1910) was a Catalan businessman. He was the grandson of Gabriel Amatller, and son of Antoni Amatller Rafols. He was born in Molins de Rei and in 1797 constructed a traditional chocolate factory, Amatller Chocolates” in the “Born” district of Barcelona.

Description of the house

Is a building in the “Modernisme” style in Barcelona, designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. With “Casa Batlló” and “Casa Lleó-Morera”, it makes up the three most important buildings in Barcelona's famous “Illa de la Discòrdia” ("Block of Discord"), noted for its unique modernist buildings.

The building was originally designed as a residence for chocolatier Antoni Amatller and was constructed between 1898 and 1900.

CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS

They utilised Montjuïc stone, marble, wood, iron, bronze, stucco sgraffito, ceramics and stained glass leaded.

The symbolic elements of the house are the front and the interior, which is recognized as the home of the Barcelona box of chocolates.
