WHAT?
• Carnival is a festive season where we celebrate the entrance in Lent. So, we also celebrate the upcoming Easter!
WHEN?
• The main events of the Carnival feast are usually celebrated during February, forty days before Easter.
WHERE?
• We celebrate the Carnival feast in several amusement places, houses and parades all around Greece. Two cities, Xanthi and Patra celebrate this feast in a particular way, with great big parades with hundreds of thousands of people taking part in them.
• In Other cities Carnival is celebrated with a traditonal way (e.g. in Kozani)
HOW?
• Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life.
WHY?
• We celebrate Carnival, a custom of our tradition, because when it stops we start the period of fasting and therefore Easter.
