CARBON CYCLE

Carbon Cycle

The movement of carbon from the non-living environment into living things and back

Major Elements CO2

O: Oxygen

C: Carbon

C6H12O6:Glucose

Decomposing bacteria: bacteria that break down organic

material

Waste:

a resource that is not safely recycled back into the environment

Dead organism:

something that was once living

Carbon sink:

natural or artificial reservoir that accumulates and stores more carbon than it releases

Examples: Forests, soils, oceans and the atmosphere

Combustion

To burn something

Glucose

Molecular formula: C6H12O6 Glucose is a carbohydrate (sugar) used

for energy

Photosynthesis

The process in which plants, algae, and some use sunlight, carbon dioxide and water to produce carbohydrates and oxygen

Respiration

organisms release/use energy stored in the chemical bonds of glucose (C6H12O6)

How the cycle works:

What goes into animal – O2 What goes out of animal –CO2 What goes into plant- CO2 What goes out of plant- O2 What is stored in animal- carbon and

carbohydrates What is stored in plant- carbon and

carbohydrates How stored products get back out of animal

and plant- waste and dead organism

How the cycle works answers

What goes into animal – What goes out of animal – What goes into plant- What goes out of plant- What is stored in animal- What is stored in plant- How stored products get back out of animal and
