3 Axis Motorized PIC Machine

4/20/11

Introduction

• Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Milling machines aresome of the most fascinating products of the manufacturingindustry.

• The 3-Axis Motorized PIC Machine is similar to the CNCMilling machine in every aspect except that it is controlled bya programmable instruction chip (PIC) instead of a userinterface.

• 3-axis motorized apparatus (using bipolar stepper motors), acontroller (using microchips and pushbuttons), and a liquidcrystal display (LCD).

Abstract Highlights

Similar to a computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine

Controlled by a programmable instruction chip (PIC)

The main goal of this project is to build the motorized stages and control them by using a microchip 16f684.

Controls movement of

the stage; left and right.

Inputs from the

pushbuttons are sent to

the PIC16f684 and

implemented in the

stepper motors.

Receive inputs from

pushbuttons and carry

them out in the stepper

motors.

PIC16f684 Continuously run of the

desired stepper motor

until a pushbutton is

released.

LCD &

Pushbuttons Once information is

sent to the stepper

motors it will also

display stepper motor

action in the LCD

Main components

• 3 stepper motors, Dremel, LCD, 4 microchips (PIC16f684)

Dremel motor tool does the cutting

LCD & pushbuttons control parameters of the stepper motor

4 Microchips (16f684) control the entire operation, such as receiving inputs from the

LCD and translating it to the stepper motors.

• From a top isometric prospective

• 2 motors will control the stage (up & down, and left & right),

• The other control the motor tool (in & out)
