Campus Wiki Review
Author-Jaikishan RupaniEditor – Shishir Mathur
How a Wiki should Ideally beA wiki should be based on facts and figures. It should be written in an impersonal fashion. The wiki must be informative with pictures,
graphs and links to help understand the topic. The wiki must not advertise itself it should
just present the facts. The topic must be well researched, but
should not have any controversial material.
Problems with the Previous WikiThe wiki was not factual in nature and not
much facts were mentioned. The wiki had a personal element in it which
described the writers own experience and judgments.
The wiki was very dry with no pictures or figures to keep the reader interested.
Some formatting errors.
The wiki was not factual in nature. It told a lot about the topic without getting
into any facts. It presented an idea of the topic rather than knowledge about the topic.
Eg-The wiki was about Hostel Life in IIT-K. The previous wiki told about the life here without mentioning about the infrastructure and other factual data about the life in hostels here.
The fact about number of hostels was also wrongly mentioned.
The wiki had a personal element in it.The writer tried to paint a picture based on his
personal experience and judgments. Where it would be appreciated in an essay its considered wrong for a wiki.
Eg-The writer mentions him being nocturnal and his hangout at night. The experience in itself is nice but it should not be mentioned in a wiki.
Being a nocturnal person I have also experienced the chirping of birds just before sunrise……...
With all the facts present in the wiki, the wiki in itself becomes a bit boring for the reader and unattractive for the reader.
The wiki needed some pictures to attract the reader and keep him interested in the wiki.
