On Saturday, Oct. 17, DickensonCounty Historical Society hosted an after-noon tea for about 40 of their membersand guests.
Janice Busic, Flo Hess and Fern Deelfrom the Henry Carter Stuart Chapter ofthe United Daughters of the Confederacypresented the program. Guests were trans-ported back in time as Busic portrayedMrs. Robert E. Lee. Hess and Deel por-trayed Lee’s daughters.
After reading a poem, Cutting Off theButtons, Mrs. Lee entertained those inattendance with an informative talk abouther life as General Robert E. Lee’s wife. Then, she allowed the audience to askquestions.
Afterwards, a menu of savory, sweets, scones, and tea was served to the guests.
Since 2009 this “tea” has been a part ofPioneer Day, which was, unfortunately, cancelled this year. However, HistoricalSociety members along with membersfrom the Henry Carter Stuart Chapterdecided to hold the tea at the ClintwoodCommunity Center. Because they hadalways been working Pioneer Day events, this was the first time that many of the his-torical society members had been able toattend. Those in attendance declared theafternoon event a delightful one!
