Sootisverylight;itfloatseasilyandinvisibly.Whereverthe

airslowsorchangesdirection,sootcanbedeposited.This

doessootoutlinethestudframing?

Oftenthereisnoinsulationattheedgesofstudsonoutside

wallsorceilings.Instead,insulationisplacedbetweenthe

studs.Asairslowsaroundthecoolerdrywallatthe

uninsulatedstudedge,sootgetsdepositedinaghostly

outline.Thenailsarealsocoolerthantheirsurroundings,so

youmayseesootspotsatthedrywallnailsorscrewheads.

Thequickfix:eliminatethesourceofsoot,thencleanand

paintthewalls.Beforepainting,useagoodprimersuchas

BINtocovertheremainingsoot.
