Theine and Caffeine
Caffeine
An alkaloid compound which is found in coffee plants and is a stimulant of the central nervous system.
Caffeine is a stimulant of central Nervous system (CNS) lying in methylxanthine class. It is the world's most widely consumed psychoactive drug.
1.Occurance.
Caffiene is present in :
I. Coffee beans
II. Tea leaves
III. Kola nuts
IV. Chocolates
V. Energy drinks
VI. Guarana berries
2.Chemical nature of caffiene.
Caffiene is a drug chemically 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine.
It is an odourless, white crystaline powder that has ability to stimulate the central nervous system
Caffiene has similar structure to adenosine , which is naturally occuring neurotransmitter in brain , so it occupies the adenosene receptor and inhibits brain cell functions so alertness restores.
Cont.
It is a purine alkaloid.

3.Physiological Effects .
1. Positive effects. Helps to prevent Alzheimers
Increase memory
Detoxes the liver and cleanses the colon
Stimulate hair growth

Theine.
Caffiene and theine are same substances
Caffiene was first discovered in coffee beans so named as caffiene , the same substance is also found in tea leaves called theine.
Hence tea caffiene is called theine.
Same way guranine is guarana caffiene .
1.occurance
It is present in tea leaves.
2.chemical formula
Chemical formula is same to caffiene

formulaC8H10N4O2
Difference between caffiene and theine
coffee and tea contain caffeine but the doses are quite different, as are the effects on the body, and coffee contains almost double the amount or caffeine per regular cup, compared with tea.
The caffeine content in coffee is a central nervous system stimulant and has immediate effects. It excites us, accelerates our heart rate and raises blood pressure.
Cont.
The effects of theine in tea on the Central nervous system and cardiovascular system are mellower on the system as a whole. Instead of a quick fix with coffee, tea is the healthier and longer lasting fix. Research shows tea sharpens the mind, increases concentration, and enhances relaxation
Coffee is bitter and extremely acidic. ‘Theine’, present in Tea, is much less acidic and gentler on the digestive system.
3. Physiological effects.
1.Positive effects.
The antioxidants in green tea have been linked to lowering the risk of certain cancers (breast, ovarian, pancreatic) , heart disease, stress relief, and fat reduction & weight loss
Regular black tea drinkers have also shown to have a lower risk of developing heart disease
ea is also high in antioxidants, which have protective abilities towards free radical
Cont.
Green tea also shows beneficial effects assisting to lower blood cholesterol, control high blood pressure, lower blood sugar, suppress ageing, prevent and treat skin disease, stop cavities, and fight viruses.
Research also indicates that tea is good for your heart since it decreases serum cholesterol, triglycerides and fatty acids.
Negative effects.
Side effects of drinking too much black tea include difficulty sleeping, headaches, nervousness, diarrhea, irritability, irregular heart rate, confusion, heartburn, tremors in your extremities and possibly convulsions.
