Mr. Greenfield

Mountains

The mountains have mild summers and cold winters.The mountains cover half of the state and is home to to millions of trees. Big, small, mediam, giant.

The mountains have many tourist and lots of activities.

Desert

The desert has hot summers and cool winters. The desert earns less than 10 inches of rain each year. There is not a lot of visitors in the desert because not many activities are provied and of its bad climate. The desert is home to snakes, owls, coyoties.

Valley

The valley has hot summers and cool winters. It is below sea level and has lot farming because of good soil and great weather. It grows fruit and veggies, and turns the fruit into bitter wine.

Coast

The coast has hot summers and wet winters. It is also a great farming area and a tourist attraction. It has roller coasters, beaches, camping, and all kinds of great tourist areas.

James Cook

James Cook was one of the many explorers who traveled to the United States. But, Cook traveled around the WorldWorld in search of many goods and riches.

Juan Cabrillo

Juan Cabrillo has one amazing story with many details showing emotion and feeling. When Juan went to search of a waterway to find his way to Asia to find riches and spices. When Cabrillo found California he tripped over a rock and died.

Sir Francis DrakeSir Francis Drake was

a explorer and a pirate, too. When Queen Elizabeth 1 was about to lose her life she asked Drake to go to Spain and steal riches. So drake took 5 boats and sailed down to Spain. England became a very rich country.

Sebastian Vizcaino

Sebastian Vizcaino was a Mexican explorer who was looking for a safe harbor in California to park more boats from Mexico. Mexico, as you can see, has many boats because Mexico had many people living there. Some

Father Serra

Father Serra was a priest from Spain and was an amazing person. He started his work by building 30 missions. Father Serra died not because to much building, but of old age.

Gaspar De Portola

De Portola was a Spanish soldier who was the first to build the first fort.

Ranchos

Ranchos are, as you can see, is a ranch. Rancho is the Spanish word for rancho. Indians who work in ranchos farm, handle cows, and bring picked crops to the missions.

Pueblo

Pueblos are box shaped houses stacked on top of each other. The pueblos purpose was to farm for presidios, so soldiers get fresh fruit and veggies. Gathered water was served fresh from pueblos. Soldier's families, settlers, and Indians lived there.

John Sutter

John Sutter built Sutter's Fort, which may seem familiar. Sutter was a swiss settler who wanted to sell items to other settlers. His worker, James Marshell, was the one who started the gold rush. You can visit Sutter's Fort in Sacremento.

Fort Ross

Fort Ross was used when the Russians first came to ''Alta'' California, and was first used as a fur trading post with otter pelts. It was then used as a fort when the Spanish came. You can now visit fort Ross near the other missions.

Jedediah SmithSmith was a fur trapper

who hunted beaver. He was small, but very, very skilled with hunting traps and guns and fishing rods. He traded his fur with other trappers for more traps, ammo, nets, and other hunting and fishing tools.

James Beckwourth

James was the first African-American man to live with the Crow Indians, be very skilled with traps and rods(like Smith), and become a mountianeer to lead settlers to and from the Goldrush!!!!!!!!!!

John Bidwell

John Bidwell was a settler, rancher, and a political leader!! He was one the the many generous helpers who organized the first wagon train. The train would bring settlers to come to the beautiful CA. Bidwell found gold and became a leader in agriculture.

John C. Fremont

John C. Fremont was a soldier, explorer of the West, and a political leader!! Fremont made extremly accurate maps of the West for the high and mighty govener and those pioneers who wanted to get to CA. He also, amazingly, led U.S. Troops in CA.

49'ers

The 49'ers came to CA in 1849. They went to look for gold, and they were mostly tricked by fools gold, which you can check out in one of our student beautiful work. Anyway, 49'ers, like I said, came in 1849. They don't have much history.

EUREKA!

Sam Brannon

Okay, this guy does not have much history, anyway. This guy bought most of the mining tools and sold them for double the price. To make his equipment sell, he actuly carried a bottl of gold dust, saying the tool will find gold.

Levi Strauss

Check the back of your pants RIGHT NOW!!! if they say Levi Strauss, stay tuned. Strauss saw that miners needed stronger pants, so he added metal rivets(???) to pants. Congrats on your historical jeans. Literally.

Mary Tape

Mary was a Chinese immagrant coming to California. While her husband spent hours at the mines, she had another problem: her daughter going to school. She sued for the right for Asians to go to school. Thanks, Mary!!!!

When can I go to school?

Biddy Mason

Have you heard about her? She was a slave who came o California with her “owner.” when she got there, she wrote a letter to the goverment, asking for them to say yes to her going. They said yes, so she was the first AA to buy land, marry, and become a buisness.

Mexican American War

The Mexican American War was different from other wars because it was fought over a river. After a while of many deaths, burials, musket shots and other war stuff, a treaty of Guadlupe de Hildago was signed, and that is why we have peace between these 2 places.
