GLIMPSES - New Arrivals in the Library
The Event Manager’s Bible: The Complete Guide to Planning and Organising a Vol-
untary or Public Event, by D.G. Conway
Viva Books Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, 2010, Paperback, ISBN: 9788130914589, 324 pages
Anyone responsible for organising a voluntary or public event will want to do it safely and well, complying with the legislation relating to different aspects of their event. This book will help you to research, plan, organize, manage and deliver any event, match, show, tournament or function that will be attended by more than a handful of people. You may be running a gymkhana, fete, fun run, steam fayre, half marathon, carnival, school sports day, jumble sale, tennis tournament, car boot sale, model aircraft show or even a huge pop festival or Formula 1 car race. Whatever it is, the principles are the same. As event manager you will need to research, plan, liaise with authorities, obtain permissions and licences, comply with legal requirements and then deliver the event to the public.
Ramayana versus Mahabharata—My Playful Comparison by Devdutt Pattanaik Rupa Publications India Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, 2018, Paperback, ISBN 978-93-5333-230-3, 208 pages. It is a popular belief that the Ramayana is idealistic, while the Mahabharata is realistic. Yet these two epics have identical building blocks, identical themes, and identical his-tory. In this ground-breaking book, Devdutt Pattanaik, India’s most popular mythologist, explores the similarities and dissimilarities between the two epics in a ‘playful analysis’ accompanied by his signature illustrations. Whether it is the family structure, forest exile, or war, the comparison between the two epics proves a startling point—the Mahab-harata is in fact a reaction to the events in the Ramayana. ‘A treasure trove of mythological information, one marvels at the amount of research that has gone into penning the text… Enlightening, informative, lending itself to multiple debates and a metaphysical treat, this book is infinitely precious.’ – Kankana Basu, Dec-can Chronicle.
