There are many fish in the world.

Some fish live in saltwater.

Some fish live in freshwater.

Let’s look at some fish that live in the salty oceans first.

There are many types of sharks that live in the salty ocean.

There are many types of whales that live in the salty ocean.

(Whales are not really fish)

There are many types of dolphins that live in the salty ocean.

(Dolphins are not really fish either.)

There are many types of colorful fish that live in the salty ocean.

Some fish that live in the salty ocean have shells.

There are many types of crabs that live in the salty ocean.

What about our lakes and ponds?

There are many types of fish that live in this freshwater.

They are NOT the same type of fish that live in the salty ocean.

Rainbow trout live in the freshwater in lakes and rivers.

Large mouth bass live in the freshwater in lakes and rivers.

Sunfish live in the freshwater in lakes and ponds.

Catfish also live in the freshwater in lakes and ponds.

For the most part, fish that live in the salty ocean cannot live in the freshwater of a lake.

For the most part, fish that live in the freshwater of a lake cannot live in the salty water in the ocean.

But all fish are important.

We need to take care of their homes whether it be…

the salty ocean, or

the freshwater lakes, ponds, and rivers.
