NUTRITIONAL BALANCE

What does the U.S government think we should eat??

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans encourage people to eat healthy food because some foods can cause multiple sicknesses.

Also, if you constantly eat unhealthy foods and desserts , you could become overweight.

According to the government, whenever you’re eating, your plate should have fruits, veggies, protein, grains, and dairy.

Protein Foods Meat, poultry, beans, peas,

eggs, processed soy products, nuts, and seeds are part of the protein food group.

According to the government, whenever you are eating protein, it depends on your age, gender, and how much you exercise.

So, if you’re a girl and your age is between 9-13, you should be eating 5 ounces of equivalents daily.

Also, if you’re a boy and between the age of 9-13, you should also be eating 5 ounces of equivalents daily.

Grains Wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley, or

another kind of cereal grain is part of the grain food group. Examples : tortillas, bread, pasta, grits, and

oatmeal.

Just like the protein, whenever you’re eating grains, it depends on your age, gender, and how much you exercise.

So, if you’re a girl and you’re between the age of 9-13, then you should be eating 5 ounces of equivalents daily.

If you’re a boy and between the age of 9-13, you should be eating 6 ounces of equivalents daily.

Fruits Any fruit or 100% fruit

juice is and always will be part of the fruit group.

Examples include: Apples, Apricots, Bananas, Cherries, Grapefruit, Grapes, Kiwi, Lemons, Limes, Mangoes, Nectarines, Oranges, Peaches, Pears, Papaya, Pineapple, Plums, Prunes, Raisins, Tangerines, Berries, Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Melons, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, and Watermelon.

Vegetables

Vegetables have 5 different subgroups: dark green, starchy, red and orange, beans and peas, and any other vegetables.

Do You Really Need Vitamins??? Vitamins are

substances that everyone needs to grow and develop naturally.

Vitamins that you need are Vitamins A,B,C,D,E,K.

McDonald’s Turning to Healthy Food

In the past years, McDonalds has changed to healthy foods.

Salads, fruits, and veggies are now an option for sides in regular meals.

Also, in Happy Meals, McDonalds is serving fries, yogurt, oranges, and apples as sides for the kids.

In the Happy Meals, McDonald’s used to serve fries and cookies.

Exercise!!!!

Whenever you eat calories, you need to exercise in order to burn off those calories.

Everyone should exercise no matter how old you are.

Adults should exercise for at least 1 hour and 15 minutes each week.

Children should exercise for at least 1 hour at the least.
