UMD Mission Statement

The University of Minnesota Duluth integrates liberal education, research, creative activity, and public engagement and prepares students to thrive as lifelong learners and globally engaged citizens.

-New Emphasis in Strategic Plan, 2014

MISSION is to teach the students well

 CHALLENGE is to

refocus on the mission  PLAN is to redirect

non-student, non-academic use of archives

Vision

This plan is succeeding due to two components. NETWORK and SELF-SERVICE

Network and Partners

NETWORK 1) an existing, collegial information network, and 2) self-service features in place and growing

The network relies on two PRIMARY PARTNERS

1) Duluth Public Library 2) Twin Ports Genealogical Society

Two additional network partners are the Jim Dan Hill Library’s transportation resources and the Lake Superior Marine Museum both of which cover all-things ships, shipwrecks, vessel history related…

Audience Divergence

Community Exploration vs

research Increased external

resources One-stop for support Sharing among

institutions

Students & Campus Active engagement Curricular ties Research resource-

types and needs One-stop for support Hands-on experiences

Self-Service: Homepage, Library Guides
